Bio
Caleb Smedra is a composer and orchestrator known for his emotionally resonant scores that blend classical orchestration with cinematic storytelling.
Inspired by film legends like John Williams, John Powell, and Patrick Doyle, Caleb enjoys bringing a blend of classical orchestration, thematic composition, and a historically-informed sound to his works. He has written original scores for stage productions, audio dramas, short films, and music libraries, showcasing technical versatility with a consistent emphasis on character-driven and narrative work.
Originally trained as a concert pianist under the late Dr. Jovanni-Rey de Pedro (Samford University) and Dr. Victor Labenkse (PLNU), Caleb transitioned from performing to composing during the 2020 lockdowns. His debut concert piece, Over Baltic Seas, won the Piano Guild International Composition Contest.
In 2023, he studied under Olivia Singleton at The Logos Theatre (The Chronicles of Narnia, The Scarlet Pimpernel), where he composed and produced an original score for The Pilgrim’s Progress, a feature-length theatrical production with larger-than-life puppetry and epic battle sequences. The score features recurring character motifs and emotionally complex underscoring, receiving national acclaim for “creating terrifying scenes of cinematic quality.” (DC Theatre Arts) Caleb has also scored several short films, and in 2025, he directed and scored the award-winning Viking short film Bringer of Light.
Caleb writes primarily in Logic Pro and Dorico, and is adept at composition, arranging, and orchestration, having worked with conductor and orchestrator David Shipps (Call of Duty, Vikings, Star Wars: Outlaws). Caleb’s collaborative approach and understanding of the technical post-production process ensures that his work aligns seamlessly with a director's vision.
Based in Greenville, South Carolina, Caleb continues to work remotely with directors and producers nationwide. He’s always looking for the next project to pour himself into, and is particularly passionate about Neo-romantic works, period films, and children’s music.
